When Should I update or upgrade Sage 100 (Year End Update Information Included)
I am sure for many the first question that is being asked in response to this title is what is the difference between an upgrade and an update. Upgrades are significant annual releases of the software. Updates are typically lesser patches and fixes that come out in groups about once a quarter. Accounting Technology recommends to stay on the current or one prior version of the software because software developers discontinue support for older versions. Newer version are typically the only ones that are tested and reviewed for new operating systems as well. So, what version is your business using and are you on a supported version. Below are the last few years of versions and their dates of support.
In addition, at the end of each calendar year there is typically an Interim Release Download (IRD) in addition to these updates and upgrades. These IRDs typically impact updates for 1099 and year end payroll processing. They typically require certain levels of service updates. They will only be released for version 2015 and later. I just received response from a long time trusted Customer Support Specialist at Sage. They cannot guarantee there will be a year-end update but… “There is always an IRD of some sort but it would not be released until almost the end of the year. Neither will the forms from Aatrix for 2017 ready until then. It’s because of the Government’s last minute changes. We are never given the opportunity to release early.” We will be available to assist regarding compatibility and installation.

* Electronic Reporting: As previously announced, the Electronic Reporting module (formerly known as Magnetic Media Reporting) has been retired. Please note, you still have the ability to print Payroll and Accounts Payable tax forms using the Federal or State eFiling menu tasks. Product Updates were 1 through 7, with the final one released November 2015

Sage Extended Solutions (custom enhancements to the MAS 90 or 200 software, some formerly known as Macabe Easy Solutions enhancements prior to acquisition) were retired by November 1, 2010. However, some selected enhancements were incorporated into the product over the course of versions 4.40 through 2013.

Earlier versions of Sage (or Best Software) MAS 90 and 200 (3.61, 3.60, 3.51, 3.50, 3.41, 3.40, etc.) were all retired by 2005 or years earlier.
